Start Your Memoir

Where do I begin?

I'm an award-winning audio journalist with more than seven years of experience producing narrative podcasts for institutions like CNN, LAist, and APM.

Through my interviews with experts and ordinary people alike, I discovered that everyone has a valuable story to share, and I believe those stories can connect family members across generations. But writing your personal history is a daunting task, and many people don’t know where to begin.

That’s why I offer a workshop called “Start Your Memoir: How to Tell Your Story in Your Voice.” It’s a five-week class with guided prompts, storytelling tips, and individualized feedback.

In the first class, students will learn of the core elements of a memoir, practical writing tips, and how to identify a theme or pattern from their life that they can focus on. In subsequent classes, they'll expand on the theme they've identified and get personal direction on writing and organizing their stories.

I piloted a version of this class among seniors at a local church in Los Angeles, and they had a lot of interest and enthusiasm for this topic. Now I'm bringing it to other senior centers across Southern California.
